Some challenging blog-love worth considering…

Well, I’ve been overwhelmed by the number of recent blogs on Lakeland, given the recently publicized moral failures of Mr. Bentley.  I have been quiet on the matter because I really see this as a very sad occasion – one where prayer for the fallen is far more needed than a pointed “I told you so“.  However, it is a fact that bad theology results in poor life choices – that is to say: THEOLOGY MATTERS.  Whether we like the word or not, we all have a ‘theology’, and what we believe about God, the world, and ourselves plays out in what sort of decisions we make, and how we go about making those decisions.  Personally, I hope Todd’s marriage is restored – I hope and pray that he grows to trust Christ more fully, love God’s Word more wholey, and serve him more devotedly in the coming years.

That having been said, though I may not entirely agree with the following blogs on all matters, I cannot deny that the messages contained in some of the following seem to me almost prophetic for the charismatic movement.  Listen/read closely, friends – this is important…

First, the sad news…

Then, the wisdom gained…

That said, please be in prayer for Todd, his family, all who have attended the Lakeland ‘revival’, and for the glory of God in all of this.  Blessings…

Now recently, this week with Todd Bentley’s divorce announcement, I was reminded when I was a at week long seminar decades ago and the preacher was preaching great and I admit I started to hero worship the preacher but on the last Friday afternoon session the preacher had preached some falsehood.. and I was drastically horrified, dismayed, as to how this could be, could his whole week’s teaching now also be in error. Next I prayed and asked God how could that be? why did it occur? and God replied to me ” you had taken your eyes of me unto the preacher, and I had to show you what he, the preacher was really like.. many look up to man and not God.. we all need to focus solely on Jesus again and always.. .and even to get back to praying and fasting now too

I have watched from a distance what has gone on at Lakeland via many internet articles and a few youtube clips. I realised very soon that this was yet another false movement in the body of Christ. I have a friend or two who were addicted to the Lakeland Revival which was broadcast here on GOD TV, and I e-mailed them and lovingly warned them about this to ask the Lord for His discernement. One never replied and I heard that the Pastor of her church was going to Lakeland to “Bring ‘it’ back” whilst the other eventually saw it for what it is and turned away and also then warned the other sister, sadly to no avail. I don’t know where she is right now with regards to what is going on.

With regards to Todd, my heart is glad that God has stopped him in his tracks for his own sake and that of his family’s and also for the many people who have followed him as he led them like a “Pied Piper”,(even though most went willingly) and my prayer is that God will truly have His way here. I believe after having read so many blog postings on various sites, that there have been many Christians praying and asking the Lord to intervene in this circus and that He has heard. As Christians we need to keep praying for this man and his family who are hurting right now. What about the young sister in the midst of al this too? What will happen to her? She also needs our prayers. We need to be Praying for a true repentance and restoration of Todd and all others involved, back to Jesus Christ in the knowledge and Grace of His Truth, not back to the usual circus way of doing it. Doing it God’s Way from here on.

As Christians we need to remember that we are all sinners saved by Grace and that we are not any of us more righteous and it is only because of the blood of Jesus and His full atonement that any of us can stand in the presence of our Almighty God, but He wants us to be holy.

I also agree with what has been said about questioning the leaders of this movement and how they let it run on for as long as they did. It raises serious questions as to their supposed leadership – leadership in ‘what’ with authority from ‘whom’? It is an absolute mockery of what Christian leadership ought to be. They also need to repent before God and ask forgiveness for this whole thing and also to their congregations and leaders – They also need to be rebuked and removed. It is not enough to say sorry and to simply carry on as before, they need to really seek out the Lord for their lives, without all the ‘shennanigans’

Thanks for not being one of those brothers who in the name of Jesus say the most dreadful, personal, vitriolic things. I have been so ashamed and embarrassed by a few postings I have read throught a few of the blogs by ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’. God is busy conforming us all to the image of His Son and it is not the easiest of tasks, but one so absolutely necessary.

I also agree what thenonconformer has had to say and I can say to you brother, Thank You Jesus for you having heard Him when His still small voice spoke to you and you not only listened, but obeyed Him. It can be very subtle how our worship of Jesus can slide into the worship of a man – it happens without us even being aware it is slowly taking place. But thank God for His Grace which abounds to us whenever we need it if we are truly seeking to walk in His ways. Oswald Chambers puts it this way – Jesus first, Jesus Second and Jesus third.

Bless you for your blog, In Jesus, Steph
